Swamp Heritage Festival
National Park Service
This year was a special year for the Swamp Heritage Festival as it was also the Big Cypress Swamp National Preserve's 50th anniversary. The purpose of the festival is to celebrate and educate the public about the rich history of Big Cypress, the preserve and the original inhabitants, along with the current residents. The celebration includes culturally rich demonstrations, speakers, exhibits, and music to showcase the uniqueness of the swamp and its peoples.
As an extension of the volunteer work Naples Camera Club does to document the changes in the preserve, the rangers invited us to serve as volunteer photographers for the festival. We had several club members in attendance and taking photographs for the rangers to use in the future. Below is a sampling of some of the great images captured by our members.
