Mentoring Program

Good evening,
Please see below email from Jan DeArmas related to our Mentoring Program which weill be starting this weekend.

We will begin the new year with the mentoring program on Sunday, January 7th @ 1:00.  This will be held at Koreshan State Park and they will be meeting at the generator building.
The topics will be Histograms and Exposure Triangle ISO/fStop/SS.

If you are planning to come on the 7th, please let me know at jad@ddsi.com with mentoring in the subject line, with your name and what group you will be in.

We are still in need of a Sony mentor, if you have the time and would like to help your fellow member out please let me know at jad@ddsi.com

If you have a Sony camera and would still like to join on the 7th, please feel free to come.  If there are enough Sony users there, you can help each other out.

I'm leaving to come down to Florida on the 3rd, but won't get there until the 8th or 9th.  I will not have access to the internet during that time.  If you have any questions in regards to the 7th, Alan Esplin can help you out.  his e-mail is alanesplin@yahoo.com

Happy New Year,

Jan DeArmas

Canon Mentoring Program I see the following as a starting point that all makes of camera’s could use for a basic beginners outline to be used for a hands-on teaching session. We would take these topics and give an in-depth overview of each one. Staying on each point until our student understands the topic. Feel free to modify as you see fit. We will pick a day and time that works for us in January and go on a field outing and teach Canon folks how to use their camera.

The final exam

Setting up and shooting a five-shot bracketed HDR image

We will hold a Zoom meeting the week of Feb 13 that goes over all the items needed to shoot an HDR image. Everything we have discussed to date will be incorporated into this shoot. I will send out a cheat sheet on HDR settings and explain then during the Zoom meeting Our net hands on meeting will be at Koreshan in the generator building , the tool barn or another site in those areas. Everyone will get a shot inside the generator building . You are going to be amazed at what you have learned.

It seems that most of the members reaching out for the mentor program has to do with their cameras. Dave came up with a great idea to help everyone that is interested. Attached is an outline of a class Dave wants to put on for Canon users, but will work for all other cameras as well. We are working to find a day to do this class and will let everyone know once it's set up.

We're hoping a couple of people who shoot with Nikon, Sony and Fuji will come forward and do a class for everyone that has that kind of camera. It seems like Nikon has the biggest interest. Once everyone is together, members with the same type of camera can help each other out. This will be a great way to help your fellow members and meet new people. After looking at the outline, if you would be interested in putting on a class or even help with putting on a class please let me know. Also, if you would be interested in coming to one of the classes. Just let me know the kind of camera you have.

We are still looking for members that would like to help with Wildlife (birds), portraits, and nature. This program is very new so please be patient with us trying to get it going. If you want to help out or need help in some area, you can email me at jad@ddsi.com and put mentoring in the subject line. Thank you for your patience, and look forward to seeing everyone in 2023.
